86-year-old British citizen found dead in Shimla hotel
Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased had consumed a small quantity of alcohol
An 86-year-old man from the United Kingdom (UK) has allegedly been found dead in a hotel in Shimla, police said on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Barry Elvin Moss, a resident of 46 Rutland Road, England.
The police said they received information around 12 am from a Kaithu resident that a foreign national who was staying in his hotel in room no. 103 was lying unconscious. Taking prompt action, a police team, along with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), reached the hotel and found the body lying on the floor in the hotel’s room.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had consumed a small quantity of alcohol. Following this, the police searched the room, collected evidence, and took possession of the necessary belongings of the deceased.
The body was then taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, for a postmortem.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh said the police have informed the UK Embassy, and further action as per section 194 (suicide) of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), will be taken after receiving the response from the embassy.
