9 yrs on, no link road to bridge in Jaisinghpur Assembly constituency

In the absence of approach roads to a bridge on the Awa Khud, which was constructed to link Jaisinghpur and Baijnath constituencies, the project has failed to serve its purpose.

Residents of the Kailashpur area in the Jaisinghpur Assembly constituency have lodged a protest over the failure of the state government to construct an approach road to the bridge over the Awa Khad.

The Public Works Department (PWD) had constructed the bridge over the Awa Khad, which links the Jaisinghpur and Baijnath constituencies, nine years ago. Surprisingly, no steps have been taken to construct approach roads on both sides of the bridge. The area falls in two divisions of the PWD—Baijnath and Jaisinghpur. In the absence of connecting roads, the bridge has failed to serve its purpose.

A senior PWD officer says that the bridge was completed in 2013 following the intervention of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The bridge links Panchrukhi block to Baijnath tehsil.

Local villagers have threatened to boycott the Assembly elections due later this year if the PWD fails to do the needful. They say that they have approached PWD officials many times, but to no avail. Their repeated visits to the local MLA have proved futile.

Assistant Engineer, PWD, Ankaj Sood, says that the department has floated tenders for the road on one side of the bridge falling in the Jaisinghpur constituency. He adds that he will make efforts to get the road constructed at the earliest.

Villagers threaten poll boycott

Local villagers have threatened to boycott the Assembly elections due later this year if the PWD fails to do the needful. They say that they have approached PWD officials many times, but to no avail. They alleged their repeated visits to the local MLA, too, had proved futile.
