In a special drive to curb illegal mining along the riverbeds, fine worth Rs 95,500 was realised from 20 tractor trailers engaged in the illegal activity at various riverbeds in Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur district today.
As mining is prohibited during rainy season, such activities could prove fatal as both Giri and Yamuna rivers could be flooded during the monsoon.
Various police teams cracked down on mining mafia engaged in plundering the state’s mineral wealth, causing loss of royalty to the state exchequer.
SHO Puruwala, in- charge, Singhpura, and other police teams raided various locations of Giri and Yamuna river zone near Bangran Bridge, Manpur Devda, Shyampur, Gojjar, etc, and challaned 11 tractors involved in illegal transportation of sand without mining permit and realised a fine of Rs 54,500.
In another case, SHO Majra and his team raided Bata river and challaned two tractors involved in illegal lifting of mined material. Fine worth Rs 9,000 was realised.
Nakas were laid at Melion and Tokyo under police station, Majra, Batamandi, Surajpur and Gondpur under police station Paonta Sahib and Rampurghat, Rajban and Puruwala under police station Puruwala to crack down on the illegal operators.
SHO Paonta Sahib and his team raided the Yamuna area near Bhuppur and challaned seven tractors involved in illegal lifting of mining material and realised fine worth Rs 32,000.
Traffic police of PS Paonta Sahib, Puruwala and Majra also challaned more than 250 vehicles and realised fine worth Rs 48,200.
