Palampur, August 2
Several areas of Palampur in Kangra district are facing an acute shortage of potable water. The water supply schemes have failed to meet the daily requirement of consumers.
Over 20 villages in the Chadhiar area have got poor water supply for the past two months. Despite public protests, the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department has not been able to supply sufficient water to these villages.
Nanwar, Janas, Bhulna, Chambe da Behru, Doli, Kholi, Nihang Basti, Tanchi, and Birdi villages are getting water supply twice a week.
An IPH Department official says that the Changan water resource that feeds supply schemes meant for these villages went dry in April this year, triggering the crisis. He adds that despite heavy rains the water level in the resource has not improved. Efforts are being made to streamline water supply to the affected villages.
Meanwhile, Baijnath MLA Mulakh Raj Premi today assured the villagers of regular water supply soon. He said that IPH Department officials had told him that water would be supplied to these villages on a daily basis from Friday.
