Dharamsala, April 17

Many advocates from Palampur and Baijnath could not take the test for the recruitment of assistant district attorneys that was scheduled in Dharamsala today.

The reason: They got stuck in a traffic jam on the Palampur-Dharamsala road near Chachian.

Jam near Chachian

  • They got stuck in a traffic jam on the Palampur-Dharamsala road near Chachian
  • The jam took place as thousands of the Sacha Sauda sect followers descended on the area this morning
  • The followers of the sect, headed by Baba Ram Rahim Singh, had gathered at the dera to observe its foundation day

The jam took place as thousands of the Sacha Sauda sect followers descended on the area this morning. The followers of the sect, headed by Baba Ram Rahim Singh, who is undergoing sentence in a murder case, had gathered at the dera to observe its foundation day.

The dera is set up on about 300 kanals. Since the arrest of Baba Ram Rahim, it is for the first time that the followers had gathered in large numbers.

Rohit Kumar, a candidate, said he could not appear for the examination due to the huge traffic jam. The police should have given an advisory to people regarding traffic jam or should have diverted the traffic. There was a total chaos on the road, he said.

Nitesh Malhotra, an advocate from Baijnath, who could not reach the examination centre, blamed the police and administration. There was hardly any policeman to manage the traffic. Nitesh said about 15 advocates from Palampur and Baijnath failed to reach their centre in time.
