After spate of firing cases, Una admn set to review all arms licences

After the recent spate of shooting incidents that took two lives in Una district and the recovery of a couple of illegal arms, the Una district administration today constituted sub divisional committees to review the arms licences issued to local residents.

Una DC Jatin Lal said the committees had been constituted in all five sub divisions under the chairmanship of the respective SDMs, while the respective Sub Divisional Police Officers, Tehsildars, SHOs and Forest Range Officers will be the members of the committee.

The DC said all licenced arms holders had been ordered to deposit their arms at the police stations concerned or authorised arms sellers by 28 November.

He directed the Superintendent of Police to ensure that the reports of all arms in each sub division was submitted to the committees concernedas per the provisions of Section 17 of the Arms Act of 1959 so that the verification process could be initiated.

Jatin Lal said the committees would scrutinise the licences, particularly those issued for the protection of crops and self protection. He said pending land disputes and social standing, among other factors will be taken into consideration while deciding on whether the licence will be cancelled or not.
