Aggressive bull captured in Nurpur, shifted to sanctuary
Had attacked and seriously injured an elderly resident, Ram Saran of Ward No. 2 of the town
Residents of Nurpur town, especially women, children and the elderly, heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday after the local Municipal Council (MC), along with the staff of the Veterinary Hospital, captured an aggressive bull that had been posing a serious threat to their lives for the past two years.
The bull, which had been roaming in streets and other public places in the town, had attacked several elderly people. Recently, an elderly resident, Ram Saran of Ward No. 2, was seriously injured when the bull gored him with its sharp horns. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Nurpur, and was discharged last week after receiving treatment indoor.
The veterinary team, under the supervision of Dr Munish Gupta, tranquilized the bull after a strenuous operation. After it was sedated, the MC workers lifted the animal using a JCB machine and transported it in a jeep to a government-recognised cow sanctuary being run by an NGO at Khabbal in Jawali.
The captured bull had created panic among residents and pedestrians, who used to run for safety upon spotting it in the town. Locals said that several stray and abandoned, unproductive cows and bulls were still roaming freely in the town. They urged the authorities concerned to take prompt action to remove these animals from public places and relocate them to cow shelters to prevent any untoward incident in the future.
