Mukesh Agnihotri meets ZP staff, assures support

Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri met protesting Zila Parishad cadre Panchayat Secretaries in front of the Haroli Block Development Office here today. He told them that the Congress supported their cause. The employees have been demanding the merger of their cadre with the Rural Development Department.

Trilok Singh, Haroli block president of the protesting employees, said, “We have a strength of 4,700 employees, who worked in watershed projects at the panchayat level and were absorbed as Zila Parishad employees. There are no recruitment and promotion rules for us. Consequently, government service schemes or job regularisation policies are not available to their cadre”.

He said that they had taken up their issue with the state government several times and on May 25 this year, they had a meeting with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. The Finance Secretary and senior officers of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj departments had also attended the meeting. He added that the Chief Minister had directed the officers concerned to put up the issue at the next Cabinet meeting. However, four Cabinet meetings had been held since then but their matter was not on the agenda.
