Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today inaugurated a drinking water scheme near the Mata Chintpurni temple on which a sum of Rs 12.42 crore has been spent. The scheme will serve more than 10,000 locals living in 19 nearby villages, including 4,000 schoolchildren and devotees coming to pay obeisance at the shrine.
Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri said the scheme would end the problem of drinking water shortage in the area. He informed that there are about 600 deep bore tube wells in Una district, providing drinking water to the people of the district, adding that efforts are underway to provide additional drinking water from Bhabour Sahib reservoir of Sutlej river and from Pong dam reservoir.
The Deputy CM said a sum of Rs 130 crore has been earmarked for the development of the Mata Chintpurni temple to provide better facilities to the devotees and to give a facelift to the shrine. He directed the temple trust chaired by the Deputy Commissioner to initiate work on the Rs 100 crore ropeway project for the temple.
Agnihotri earlier paid obeisance at the temple and participated in a ‘yajna’. Chintpurni MLA Sudarshan Babloo and Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal accompanied the Deputy CM.
