AI-powered traffic systems to curb violations in Himachal's Nurpur
Have been installed at the inter-state Kandwal barrier in Nurpur, Raja-ka-Talab on the Jassur–Talwara highway in Fatehpur and Damtal on the Pathankot–Jalandhar highway in Indora
To curb traffic violations, including over-speeding, wrong-side driving and driving without helmets and seat belts, the Nurpur district police have installed four Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) on different highways of the district.
The ITMS will keep close Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based vigil on traffic rule violations.
According to information from the SP’s office, the ITMS have been installed at the inter-state Kandwal barrier in Nurpur, Raja-ka-Talab on the Jassur–Talwara highway in Fatehpur and Damtal on the Pathankot–Jalandhar highway in Indora. The new systems would be used to monitor traffic, reduce congestion, enhance road safety and for issuance of e-challans to violators.
Nurpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kulbhushan Verma told The Tribune that the district police had installed several CCTV cameras at sensitive locations, particularly along inter-state borders, to intensify surveillance and monitor the movement of suspicious elements. He said CCTV cameras had been installed at 52-Gates in Riyali gram panchayat in Fatehpur, Milwan and at Atarha Chowk (Gangath) in Indora and Kandwal in Nurpur. The ITMS would also be installed in the Nurpur, Kotla and Bhadroya areas of the district, he said.
SP Verma said the district police had also proposed installation of the CCTV cameras in Jassur town. He said Kangra MP Rajiv Bhardwaj had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the project. “We have sought a quote from the state’s Electronics Development Corporation for installing these cameras,” he said. Jassur is a major wholesale business hub in Kangra district that witnesses heavy traffic movement round the clock.
“Migrant labourers residing in shanties along two khuds in Jassur have been identified. The police are working to strictly curb begging by women and children of these migrants in markets and at bus stops. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is building an elevated flyover in Jassur town, will be directed to ensure proper lighting for the night-time as the ongoing construction has pushed the market area into darkness,” the SP said.
