AIDS Day fortnight begins at Nadaun college

Volunteers of the Red Ribbon Club at Government Degree College, Nadaun, started the World AIDS Day fortnight with a street play to create awareness about the disease on the college premises today.

Sushil Kumar Bassi, principal of the college, urged the club volunteers to extend outreach to local communities, educate people on the causes of the disease, its prevention and dangers.

BSc (III) student Vaishnavi Thakur and her group performed a play promoting rightful treatment for HIV-positive individuals without stigma.

Red Ribbon Club coordinator Bhagwati Prasad Sharma said that similar street plays would be organised in surrounding villages and institutions, making World AIDS Day. He added that the club had planned to organise awareness campaigns, sports competitions, quizzes and blood donation camps over the next month. More than 110 students and faculty members, including college vice-principal Kalpana Chaddha, faculty members Ritika Jamwal, Sunita Saklani and Mala Sharma, were present on the occasion. The students also organised a march past at the college ground to mark the beginning of the fortnight.
