Doctors at the Department of Gastroenterology at Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties, Chamiyana, performed two advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided cystogastrostomy procedures. Cystogastrostomy is a minimally invasive, life-saving procedure used to treat pus-filled or fluid collections in the abdomen, commonly seen as complications of acute pancreatitis.
The hospital’s spokesperson said that two patients underwent EUS-guided cystogastrostomy at the hospital. “While similar procedures have been carried out by the department in the past, they are now being performed using EUS, which eliminates the need for open surgery,” said the spokesperson.
Until recently, patients requiring such procedures had to be referred outside the state due to the unavailability of EUS facilities locally. Now, patients can receive the specialised treatment within the state, reducing delays, costs, and travel burdens.
