Amid 40-day tourism suspension in Sissu, video of unruly tourists sparks outrage
Clip shows three men standing through a sunroof, playing loud music
A viral video of a group of tourists in a moving vehicle in Himachal Pradesh’s Sissu has sparked widespread outrage on social media, highlighting growing friction between locals and irresponsible tourists.
The clip shows three men standing through the sunroof of a Haryana-registered car. One of them appears half-naked, while the group dances to loud music and one individual holds a glass containing what appears to be alcohol.
Tourist destinations are not private properties where you can do whatever you want. They are homes to people. Who enjoys this nuisance ? Such behaviour ruins the peace for locals and even for those who come here seeking calm. Sissu panchayat has decided to close tourist… pic.twitter.com/8zivjsbeIy

The revelry was cut short when a police official approached the vehicle to photograph its number plate, prompting the men to quickly retreat inside.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from netizens and local residents, who say such acts of “public nuisance” disturb the region’s peace and show a lack of respect for local culture.
The controversy comes as the Sissu Gram Panchayat in Lahaul-Spiti has imposed a 40-day suspension of tourism activities, from January 20 to February 28.
While local authorities say the suspension is aimed at preserving the sanctity of traditional religious rituals and age-old customs, the viral video has intensified demands from the local community for regulated tourism that respects the fragile mountain ecosystem and the area’s spiritual traditions.
