MLA Anil Sharma meets JP Nadda, seeks funds for Mandi hospital parking
Mandi, July 14
Mandi Sadar MLA Anil Sharma has met Union Health Minister JP Nadda regarding the shortage of parking spaces at the Regional Hospital in the district and sought funds to resolve the issue. Patients visiting the hospital face the parking problem, compelling many of them to park their vehicles along nearby roads, thereby leading to traffic congestion. He has also written a letter to Nadda over the issue.
Sharma proposed the construction of a structure on the premises of the hospital. The proposal aimed at alleviating parking woes by repurposing old storage areas and operating theaters into a three-storey parking facility. Additional plans include establishing a nursing college and a hostel to accommodate the hospital staff, addressing their housing needs and future requirements. The estimated cost for these works would be Rs 17.19 crore.
He requested Nadda for funds for the purpose considering fiscal constraints of the state government. Previously, a proposal for parking in the Red Cross Society building was meant for only 20 vehicles to be built at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Sharma found this proposal inadequate to meet the parking requirement and so he suggested the use of the old operating theater area for the purpose.
The proposal has been forwarded to the Health Secretary of the state government with a request for Rs 18 crore allocation prepared by the Public Works Department.
