Assets worth over Rs 64 cr seized under NDPS Act: Cong MLA
Urges students to choose sports and creative pursuits
Expressing serious concern over the growing menace of ‘chitta’ (heroin) in the state, Himachal Pradesh Assembly Deputy Chief Whip and Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania today said the Congress government has so far seized movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 64 crore under the NDPS Act.
During the previous government’s tenure, property worth Rs 13 crore was seized under the NDPS Act in three years, he said while speaking at the Central Students’ Cultural Association function ‘Surdhara 2025–26’ of Government College at Shahpur.
Pathania, who attended the event as chief guest, was welcomed by college principal Vishwajit, along with others.
Addressing the gathering, Pathania raised the slogan, “We need a safe future for our youth, not drugs”. He described drug abuse not merely a social evil but a direct assault on the mental and physical strength of the younger generation. Calling for a collective responsibility, he appealed to parents, panchayat representatives and public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their surroundings.
He added that suspects are already on the police radar and strict, decisive action is underway to eliminate what he termed the “termite of chitta”. Pathania said drug de-addiction centres are being set up across the state and a Drug De-addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Board has been constituted.
He urged students to choose sports and creative pursuits as lasting solutions to their problems.
