In view of abject lack of initiative in solving criminal cases, including the recent shootout where a collection agent of a local finance company was shot at and cash of Rs 8 lakh was snatched from him in Baddi, the DIG (south) today transferred the SHO, Baddi, to the police lines.

Confirming this, DIG (south) Asif Jalal said Baddi SHO Jitender Singh Kanwar’s working during his recent week-long camp was found to be unsatisfactory. In his area of operation, vehicles were found driven without registration numbers and youngsters were seen throwing all norms to the winds by driving without helmets violating the Motor Vehicle Act.

The SHO had failed to initiate any action against such violations of the Motor Vehicle Act despite a series of crimes by such offenders.

The DIG added that Kanwar failed to initiate any investigation in the several cases of crimes. With lack of preparation and virtually no control over his subordinate staff, the SHO had failed miserably as a supervisory officer looking after a police station in the vulnerable Baddi area where high-level of alertness was required for any police officer.

These shortcomings also came to the fore during the recent visit of DGP SR Mardi to Baddi and his subsequent inspection of the Baddi police station. Since no seriousness had been exhibited by the officer in discharging his duties satisfactorily, he was transferred and sent to the police lines, added Jalal.

Lakhvir Singh, in-charge, Special Investigation Unit, has been placed as the new SHO.

This is the second serious action taken against policemen in this crime-ridden border industrial belt. Earlier, a case of extortion and corruption was registered against three policemen.
