The Baddi Superintendent of Police (SP) today suspended seven policemen, including two home guards, who were deputed at various police stations for dereliction of duty.
SP Rohit Malpani, who conducted a surprise visit, found five policemen from the Barotiwala police station and two from the Baddi police station absent from their duty. A majority of them were found sleeping and the one who present in the police station was wearing casual clothes and not his uniform.
Being a sensitive crime-prone industrial belt, those deputed on night duty are supposed to be more vigilant in performing their duties. Notably, all SPs have stepped up surveillance on their field staff, especially those deputed at night in crime-prone bordering areas after the DGP has strictly directed them to focus on core policing.
Malpani, while confirming the news, said the home guards had been sent back to their battalions while the policemen have been sent to the Police Lines. Such action will help discipline the others as those approaching the police at night are often victims of heinous crimes and need immediate police action, he said.
Notably, at times, women approach the police for immediate help and the absence of a policeman not only increases the response time but can further aggravate the woes of the victim.
