Himachal Pradesh’s women kabaddi players have created history by winning the gold medal at the Second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, recently. When Bhawna Thakur, a member of the winning team, returned to Mandi yesterday, the District Kabaddi Association organised a grand reception in her honour. A large number of players, sports enthusiasts and locals gathered to celebrate her remarkable achievement.
Addressing the event, association president Shyam Lal Thakur said India’s outstanding performance in Dhaka was a moment of great pride for the entire nation. He highlighted that five talented players from Himachal Pradesh—Ritu Negi, Pushpa Rana, Bhawna Thakur, Sakshi Sharma and Champa Thakur—played a crucial role in this memorable win. Their exceptional skills brought honour to both the state and the country.
The president praised Bhawna, stating that she had set an inspiring example for the daughters of Himachal by excelling on the international stage. At the end of the ceremony, the association honoured Bhawna and extended best wishes for her bright future.
