Alleging favoritism in 14 appointments made recently in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Secretariat, the BJP has demanded cancellation of these appointments with immediate effect.

“Five of the 14 individuals appointed against these posts hail from Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Pathania’s home district, five from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s district and two from Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker’s district. The BJP strongly opposes this favouritism, and demands that these posts should be filled afresh,” claimed BJP’s chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma in a press conference here today.

Rejecting the allegations, Vidhan Sabha spokesperson Hardayal Bhardwaj said the appointments were made as per the past practices with all fairness and transparency.

Sharma, however, questioned whether any qualification and reservation criteria was kept for filling up these posts. “And if these criteria were there, how come individuals only from these three districts were found eligible for these posts in the entire state,” said Sharma. Incidentally, two appointees hail from the districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Mandi.
