BJP autocratic in governance: Congress

The state and Union governments led by the BJP had adopted an autocratic attitude in governance and tried to eliminate the Opposition through its dubious policies, said Prem Kaushal, a spokesperson for the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, here today.

He said the ideology of the BJP was exposed when it did not install the foundation stone plaque at the Rohtang tunnel. He added that the foundation was laid by Sonia Gandhi on June 28, 2010. The BJP had named the tunnel after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but had forgotten to adopt his principals of respecting the Opposition, he alleged. He said the plaque must be re-installed honourably at the tunnel.

He said the BJP leaders could not gain anything by hiding the development works done during the Congress governments.

Kaushal said the farm laws introduced by the Centre would not only affect the farmers of the country, but also lead to further rise in the prices of commodities.

He said abolishing anti-hoarding laws would encourage blackmarketeering of grains, while silence on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the government would deprive farmers of a legitimate relief.

Speaking on the hike in the price of cement in the state, Kaushal said it was another attempt to favour the corporates. He said the price of cement was reduced by Rs 40 during the Congress regime, while it was increased every time the BJP ruled the state.

Will protest if plaque not put back: Pathania

Chamba: Kuldeep Singh Pathania, HPCC chief spokesperson on Wednesday asked the BJP government to put back Sonia Gandhi’s foundation stone plaque at the earliest, otherwise the Congress would resort to a statewide agitation. “The foundation stone plaques are the property of the government. The BJP has set an undemocratic tradition of removing the foundation stones of development works of the previous Congress government and putting up the names of their leaders,” said Pathania.
