Leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest in Dharamsala on Thursday against the Congress-led state government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises and pursuing anti-people policies. The protest was led by Dharamsala MLA and former minister Sudhir Sharma and attended by former MLA Vishal Nehria, along with state spokespersons Sanjay Sharma and Rakesh Sharma, among others.
Sharma launched a stinging attack on the government, particularly Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, accusing him of deceiving the people of the state. “The Congress government has made fake promises and failed to fulfil its promises, while the CM is spewing lies not only in Himachal but in other poll-bound states where he is campaigning,” added Sharma.
He also alleged that the recent FIRs registered against representatives of taxi unions were “fake and fabricated” and demanded their immediate withdrawal.
The BJP leader further raised concerns over the law-and-order situation in the state, alleging that the police were working under political pressure. Referring to recent developments, he claimed that the suspension of several police personnel in connection with drug-related activities pointed to deeper issues.
BJP’s state spokesperson Sanjay Sharma said the protests were part of a state-wide campaign being carried out by the BJP from April 8 to 11 across all Assembly constituencies. “The Congress government has been misleading people since coming to power and as the opposition party, it’s our duty to expose them,” he added.
