AAP and the BJP will put up a show of strength this week in politically significant Kangra district having 15 Assembly segments.
While national president of the BJP JP Nadda will lead a roadshow of the party from Kangra to Nagrota Bagwan on April 22, AAP will organise a rally on April 23 in the Chambi ground in the Shahpur constituency that will be addressed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Sources here said that Nadda was to visit Kangra to attend a marriage function in Nagrota Bagwan. The party office-bearers of Kangra chose the opportunity to put up a show of strength in the form of a roadshow a day ahead of AAP rally on April 23.
The state president of BJP Suresh Kashyap, while addressing a press conference here today, said after the roadshow on April 22, Nadda would address a rally at Gandhi ground of Nagrota Bagwan. He said that AAP would not have any impact in Himachal and BJP would be voted back to power in the 2022 Assembly elections.
General secretary of BJP, Trilok Kapoor, in a press release to media, said that party workers from across the Kangra district would come to Gaggal airport to welcome their national president. Duties have been assigned to all the party workers to make the roadshow a grand success. It was a matter of pride for Himachal that JP Nadda the national president of party was from the state.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Chaudhary, AAP leader from Dharamsala, while addressing a press conference here, claimed that Kejriwal’s rally at Chambi ground of Kangra on April 23 would be an eye-opener for the ruling party. He said that AAP is already having an impact in the state as it has forced the BJP government to announce 125 units of free power and free water to people in the rural areas in Himachal. BJP was following the Delhi model of AAP government in Himachal, he said.
Sources here said that the AAP was trying to rope in a former MP, some senior Congress leaders and doctors from Kangra district. These people are likely to join AAP in the presence of Kejriwal on April 23.
Interestingly, while BJP and AAP are presenting their show of strength in Kangra district, the Congress, the main opposition party in the state, was missing from action. Some senior Congress leaders from the district are not visible in the area while others have limited themselves to their respective assembly constituencies.
