Solan, September 15
The BJP candidates won all six posts of director of Jogindra Central Cooperative Bank Limited in the elections held today while the Congress-supported candidates, including a former chairman and a vice-chairman, were defeated.
Three former chairmen — Vijay Thakur, Sanjeev Kaushal and Laj Kishore — were elected from Kandaghat, Doon and Dharampur zones, respectively. In the Solan zone, BJP candidate Budh Ram, aka Vinod Kumar, defeated former chairman and Congress leader Mohan Mehta. In the Kandaghat zone, factionalism within the BJP came to the fore, as the sitting chairman, Vijay Thakur, got support of one faction while the other faction supported his opponent Devinder Verma. The Congress, too, tactically supported Verma.
In the Dharampur zone, Laj Kishore, a former chairman, won the elections once again, defeating Congress-supported Bhupinder Singh. In the Nalagarh zone, Yogesh Bharatiya humbled Congress’ Budhi Singh Rana. Bharatiya also emerged as the frontrunner for the chairman’s post owing to his proximity to the CM.
In the single shareholder seat of the Nalagarh zone, Sanjeev Kaushal defeated Bhagat Singh of the Congress. In the Kunihar zone, BJP candidate Kiran Kaundal defeated Congress’ Krishan Chand Sharma, the sitting vice-chairman. All eyes are now on the key posts of chairman and vice-chairman where besides the six directors, four government nominees, bank’s Managing Director and a representative of HP State Cooperative Bank will have a key role to play. — TNS
