Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has inspected the ongoing work on the Rohtang tunnel.

Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Director General of the BRO, said the work had been progressing at an accelerated pace.

He said the project authorities had managed to fix the Seri Nullah fault zone and the water inflow in the tunnel by completing the crucial reprofiling and heading works in the nullah. The critical deep invert works were being undertaken in the nullah fault zone under a temporary bridge.

“It is only due to the perseverance, hard work and sound technical acumen that the works have progressed successfully,” he added. He appreciated the efforts of BRO officials and gave valuable directions to expedite the activities during winters from the south portal side. He said the Rohtang tunnel had become the lifeline for people of the Lahaul valley, which had played a major role in September to evacuate a large number of stranded persons and tourists from the Lahaul valley, when untimely heavy snowfall had blocked Rohtang. “The complete tunnel works are regularly monitored by the Director General to ensure timely decision-making and support to meet the requirements. The BRO will dedicate the tunnel to the nation in time,” he said.
