Dharamsala, March 3
The wool federation of the state today organised a camp for shepherds moving downhill these days with their flock of sheep and goats in the Dehra area. During the camp medicines were provided to shepherds and veterinary doctors checked the health of animals of shepherds.
Trilok Kapoor, chairman, Wool Federation of Himachal, said the government would be regularly conducting such camps in various parts of the state to help shepherds. The traditional Gaddi shepherds were important part of the economy of the state and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was concerned about their welfare.
Since Gaddi shepherds keep on migrating with flocks across the state, they face problems from the local administration, forest authorities and various other government departments. In today’s camp, officials of all the said departments were called so that the problems of migratory shepherds were redressed, Kapoor said.
He said such camps were held earlier also during the stint of the previous BJP government. However, the last Congress government had discontinued the practice of holding camps for migratory shepherds.
