Solan, January 14
A rapid surge in Covid cases has been registered in Solan district in the past one week with the positivity rate as high as 17.67 per cent till last evening.
There are 1,269 active cases, including 616 in the industrial hub of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) alone. As many as 250 active cases were found in the BBN in the past two days.
What is worrisome is that a majority of the RAT samples tested negative falsely while the positivity rate for RT-PCR tests was much higher. As against 458 RT-PCR tests, 86 tested positive last evening while against 1,002 RATs, 172 tested positive.
SDM, Nalagarh, Mahendra Pal said given the increasing surge, bigger industrial units have been directed to set aside 10 per cent space for isolating Covid patients while smaller units, who lack adequate space, can do in at a cluster level, with other units.
To create adequate bed space for Covid patients, the health staff will soon make functional a 50-bed facility at the indoor stadium in Baddi. Ninety beds at the ESIC hospital, Katha, and 48 beds at a makeshift hospital in Nalagarh are also available while the option of roping in private nursing colleges and hospitals is also being mooted, says a health official.
