The Himachal Government’s decision to get around 145 senior secondary schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) seems to have worked well. These schools are witnessing significant rush for admission, especially in the schools that are located in far-flung areas of the state.

“In view of the good response, we have written to the schools to run classes in two shifts to accommodate as many children as possible,” said Ashish Kohli, Director, School Education. “We’ve asked the schools to not deny admissions to any child due to infras limitations,” he said.

In the letter written to the principals of the CBSE-affiliated schools, the Director Education has allowed these schools to function in two shifts as a special and temporary administrative arrangement in public interest. As per the order, there will be adequate time gap between the two shifts to ensure orderly transition, safety, sanitation and effective academic supervision.

Meanwhile, teachers aren’t showing similar enthusiasm to teach in the CBSE-affiliated schools even after the government has issued the notification regarding the protection of their seniority on joining these schools. They will need to appear in a selection test to teach in the CBSE schools and the teachers’ associations are opposed to conducting a selection test. They have already taken the matter to the court.
