Following the inclusion of 20 leftout urban local bodies under the Town and Country Planning Act, the government has decided to delegate powers under the TCP Act to executive officers of municipal councils and secretaries of nagar panchayats to help people.
“The decision to cover all 54 civic bodies under the Act is a positive move and will ensure that no inconvenience is caused to people,” said Rajeshwar Goel, Director, Town and Country Planning.
It would facilitate flow of funds and ease of business and meet the requirements of the 74th constitutional amendment, besides ensuring the planned development of urban areas, he added.
Besides, five municipal councils of Nagrota Bagwan, Kangra, Nurpur, Jwalamukhi and Dehra in Kangra district and Naina Devi in Bilaspur district, 14 nagar panchayats of Chowari, Arki, Sarkaghat, Rajgarh, Jwali, Tahliwal, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Sunni, Daulatpur, Santoshgarh, Rewalsar, Karsog and Banjar have been brought under the Act and some adjoining villages included in some nagar panchayats.
These local bodies where building laws and bylaws of local bodies were applicable would now follow the norms and regulations under the TCP Act, bringing uniformity in all urban local bodies.
