Eight cattle heads were washed away in a cloudburst, following heavy torrential rain in Auraphati village of an outlying Bharmour tribal subdivision of Chamba district, on Tuesday evening.
Giving this information on Wednesday, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bharmour, Prithi Pal Singh confirmed that the eight cattle heads included four cows, two sheep, one bullock and a mule. Of these, the carcasses of a cow, mule and two sheep were yet to be recovered, the SDM said.
A local watermill was also washed away and a 'bowli', 'panihaar' and water taps were damaged in the areas.
The SDM said a portion of Auraphati-Dakog Road also caved in and cracks have developed at different points. The crops of maize, potato and kidney bean were also damaged.
Besides, the telecommunication network and transport services were also hit following thunderstorm and heavy rain in the mountainous terrain, the SDM said.
The revenue officials are at the site compiling the damage report and providing relief to the affected families as per the relief manual.
