CM launches water plaint helpline

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday launched a toll-free water complaint helpline number 18001808009. He was presiding over a review meeting of the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department here. The CM also sought funds worth Rs 4751 crore for rainwater harvesting project from the Centre.

The Chief Minister said that rainwater harvesting structures would help prevent wastage of water. He said the department must ensure adequate water supply and take steps to check leakages from water pipelines. The CM said that tankers should be pressed into service for supply of water so that the tourists and locals were not inconvenienced. He said that a proposal worth Rs 798 crore for remodelling and augmentation of 1,421 water supply schemes in the state had been forwarded to the Centre.

IPH Minister Mahender Singh Thakur said a special campaign had been launched to clean the water tanks and an adequate sum had been provided for the replacement of old water pipelines.
