Welcoming the verdict of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Panchayati Raj elections, BJP state president Rajeev Bindal said the comments made by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on the High Court’s decision are extremely unfortunate, objectionable, and undermine the dignity of the judiciary. “The language and choice of words amount to contempt of the High Court. Such remarks not only show disregard for constitutional institutions but also strike at the very foundations of democratic values,” said Bindal.

He said the State Election Commission had completed all preparations to hold Panchayati Raj elections during December- January. “Despite this, the Congress government made every possible attempt to delay the elections. When the matter reached the High Court, the Court delivered a clear, firm and decisive verdict in favour of the people, democracy, and the Constitution,” said Bindal.

Bindal said unwarranted comments on the High Court’s verdict were not in the interest of the state. “Such statements amount to an attempt to interfere with the functioning of the judiciary,” he said.
