Rigzin Dolkar, an alumna of the Army Public School, Dagshai, did the school fraternity proud by being part of a team which scaled the world’s highest peak — Mount Everest.
Led by Col Gaurav Karki, the four-member NCC cadet girls’ squad achieved the feat on May 22.
“As far as the history of the Army Public School is concerned, Rigzin Dolkar is the first student to have achieved this exceptional feat. Displaying the rare spirit of adventure and courage, the young girls proved that they were no less than professionals,” said S Ahluwalia, a senior teacher from the school.
The team, which was the first ever all girls’ National Cadet Corps (NCC) team, was flagged off on March 9 by Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh. It was a proud and exciting moment for Rigzin and other girls to summit the world’s highest peak.
Before the expedition, the team had a rigorous training where it was acclimatised to various aspects of mountain climbing and challenges it could face while scaling the Mount Everest.
SK Mishra, principal, APS, Dagshai, said the other students would draw inspiration from her.
