Residents hassled as water crisis deepens in Palampur

PALAMPUR: With the rise in mercury, the water crisis has deepened in Palampur.

Palampur, May 19

With the rise in mercury, the water crisis has deepened in Palampur. Residents of the town have been getting an erratic supply for the past one week. Things have gone from bad to worse as the supply schemes have failed to meet the demand-supply gap.

The upper areas of Baijnath are the worst-hit. In Sehal, taps have run dry. The residents today marched to Baijnath town to lodge their protest. They urged the Irrigation, Public and Health Department to solve the problem at the earliest.

The situation is no better in the lower areas of Palampur — Thural Alampur and Khera. Power failure further aggravates the problem. A senior official of the department said if the power supply was disrupted even for an hour, the water supply was affected. He said all efforts were being made to supply regular water.

The official appealed to the residents not to waste water and use local water sources. — OC
