Sky diving, bike stunts leave spectators spellbound

CHANDIGARH: The Army Training Command (ARTRAC) celebrated its silver jubilee at its headquarters in Shimla today. A series of events, including professional seminars, adventure activities and exhibitions, were organised throughout the preceding year at all 32 major training institutions under its jurisdiction to mark 25 years of its existence.

The Army Training Command (ARTRAC) celebrated its silver jubilee at its headquarters in Shimla today.

A series of events, including professional seminars, adventure activities and exhibitions, were organised throughout the preceding year at all 32 major training institutions under its jurisdiction to mark 25 years of its existence.

A special sainik sammelan was organised today where the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ARTRAC, Lt Gen PN Hariz addressed the troops and exhorted them to continue maintaining high standards of professionalism and uphold military ethos.

Former ARTRAC commanders, including Lt Gen AS Kalkat, who had raised the Command in 1991, were present at the events. A ‘first day cover’ was also released by the Postal Department to mark the occasion.

The year-long celebrations culminated with a series of events over the last week.

The residents of Shimla were invited to witness the thrilling and breathtaking display of adventure activities at the Annandale Ground.

Para-motor, motor cycle stunts, band display, sky diving and dog show left the spectators enthralled and spellbound.

A barakhana and a musical evening for defence civilians and veterans was also organised.

ARTRAC provides training support to the Indian Army in all facets, to enable it to carry out its role and tasks in peace and war.

ARTRAC is responsible for the development and dissemination of operational and logistics concepts and doctrines for current and future warfare at the strategic, operational and tactical levels. In addition, ARTRAC is responsible to ensure all institutionalised training, formulation of Human Resource Development (HRD) policies and leadership development in the Army.

It is also the nodal agency for doctrinal and training aspects related to peace keeping operations, including those conducted under the UN mandate.
