Shimla, December 8

The Congress today staged a protest and resorted to a ‘chakka jam’ against the three farm laws to extend its wholehearted support to the agitating farmers.

Himachal Pradesh State Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kuldeep Rathore led the protest here, and the party leaders resorted to a ‘chakka jam’ near the lift. He was accompanied by party MLAs Harshwardhan Chauhan and Nand Lal, both HPCC vice-presidents, and HPCC general secretary Mohan Lal Brakta, state Mahila Congress president Janeb Chandel, and Jatinder Chaudhary.

Rathore said that the Congress staged protests all over the state while strictly adhering to the norms of social distancing and the maximum limit of 50 persons. “We expected the Central Government to tackle Covid effectively but on the contrary, it passed the farm Bills in a haste despite opposition from all quarters,” he said. He alleged that these laws were anti-farmer.

Rathore said that the BJP had meted out a shabby treatment to the farmers, who feed the nation. “Thousands of farmers from across the country are protesting in the open in bitter cold yet the BJP-led Central Government is not willing to accede to their demands,” he said.

He added that the Congress stands rock solid behind the farmers, who should get their due. Traders, too, were being hit by the policies of the government but they did not come out openly in support of the farmers.

Harshwardhan said that the Congress fully supported the farmers and would stand with them till the Centre repealed the farm laws. Nand Lal and Brakta also accused the Central Government of being anti-farmer.
