Led by former state president and MLA Sukhwinder Singh the Congress today submitted a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner against BJP president Satpal Singh Satti, demanding a ban on his campaigning for the ruling party.

Sukhu accompanied by former MLA Rohit Thakur, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee general secretaries Harbhajan Singh Bhajji and Naresh Chauhan, HPCC general president of Shimla (Urban) Arun Sharma and other office bearers today submitted a memorandum, addressed to the ECI, to State Election Officer Devesh Kumar.

Sukhu demanded that considering the use of derogatory language by Satti against AICC president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, the ECI must bar Satti from campaigning. “Satti has vitiated the electioneering by using abusive language against Congress leaders which is not the culture in Himachal politics,” Sukhu said. Sukhu and other leaders through the memorandum made it amply clear that if the ECI does not impose a ban on Satti from campaigning, the Congress will gherao Satti.

Satti has already been issued two notices on the directions of the ECI for violating the model code of conduct. He has already replied to one notice and now the ECI has to take a call on his reply and the action to be taken against him.
