The Himachal police are going to scrap the recruitment process of constables in the entire state after 12 persons were arrested for impersonating candidates during the written examination on Sunday in Kangra district.

Admitting to the arrest of the impersonators, DGP SR Mardi said a fresh recruitment process will be started. A meeting in this regard will be held at the police headquarters on Monday evening, he added.

The recruitment process of 1,050 constables had been going on in Himachal Pradesh since the past three months. The screening and physical examination of lakhs of candidates had been completed and a written examination was conducted on Sunday at Paror in Kangra.

The racket busted by the Kangra police has raised serious questions about the integrity of the entire constable recruitment process.

According to sources, the racket involves people from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh—who were found impersonating local candidates. Only Himachal residents can apply for post of constables. However, the police found that many candidates from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were also appearing for the exam —which raised suspicions. On verification, police found that they were impersonating local candidates.
