Vikas Dhiman, a 2012 batch HP Police Services Officer, has sought pre-mature retirement to contest the Assembly elections in the state. Dhiman has sent his resignation to the state government with three-month notice so that he could contest the elections.

Talking to The Tribune here today, Dhiman said he would contest the election from Jaisinghpur. Earlier in 2017, Dhiman also made efforts for a BJP ticket from Jaisinghpur but at the last moment, the party allotted the ticket to Ravinder Ravi Dhiman.

Dhiman has done BTech in computer science from NIT, Hamirpur. Later, he completed his MBA from HP University, Shimla. Before joining the Himachal Police Services (HPS), he served as head of department in computer engineering department, Government Polytechnic College, Sundernagar.

He is known as a straightforward, honest and hardworking officer in the police.

During his short tenure as DSP, Palampur, he solved a number of cases, including blind murders.
