Shimla, January 15

Beware of cyber criminals who are nowadays duping innocent people in the name of the booster dose of Covid vaccine. The fraudsters call innocent people to know their status of vaccination and if the person had taken both doses, they inform him of his eligibility for the booster dose.

The caller tells the person that his name is being registered and he will receive an OTP. The moment the person shares the OTP, money is transferred from his bank account. “The caller sends a fake link for registration using software and applications such as Teamviewer and Any Desk app to take remote control of people’s mobile phones and funds are transferred from the bank account of the victim after he shares the OTP,” said Additional SP, Cyber Crime, Narvir Singh Rathore.

The fraudsters were using this latest modus operandi to cheat people across the country. However, no such complaint had been received in Himachal so far, he added. The Shimla police had advised local residents to be cautious and not to share OTPs with such callers. —
