Coronavirus: Himachal reports death, 24 new cases; tally rises to 1,858

Himachal Pradesh on Friday reported one death and 24 more cases of coronavirus, taking the state's death toll to 11 and case tally to 1,858.

Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday reported 22 more cases of coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the district to 194.

Keeping in view the alarming spike in positive cases, a complete lockdown will be imposed at Nahan and Dadahu towns in the district for extensive contact tracing of all positive cases from 9:00 pm today to 9:00 am on Friday.

Despite sealing Nahan for three days, from July 18 to July 20, the spike in cases continued, leading to the stringent measures. 

There were 147 active cases in the district, out of which 40 people have been cured while seven others have migrated.

While 20 of those infected belong to Govindgarh Mohalla, where more than 110 cases have been detected so far, two others are from Nahan, said DC, Sirmaur, Dr RK Pruthi. They have been shifted to COVID care centre and contact tracing has been initiated.

Pruthi said the lockdown will be utilised to undertake extensive sampling of the affected area to contain the infection which has also affected several minor children.

One more corona positive patient dies in Kangra, 2 more test positive

Kangra reported the death of a coronavirus patient and two more cases of the deadly disease on Friday morning. With the latest cases, the district’s tally has increased to 373—which includes 64 active cases, while 304 people have been cured and three others have died of the contagion.

The patient who died on Friday suffered from co-morbid conditions as he had liver disease. The patient was suffering from chronic liver disease for which he was taking treatment from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He was discharged on June 22 but suffered complications after coming back to his home in Jawalamukhi. He was then admitted to Tanda medical college, where he tested positive for coronavirus. He was shifted to the Dharamsala Zonal Hospital, a COVID Containment Centre. However, the patient collapsed while being shifted to the ambulance.

The death of the patient has once again highlighted the lack of super-specialist medical facilities for patients who test COVID positive.

The other two patients who died after testing COVID-positive in Kangra also had comorbid health conditions. A Tibetan national was the first casualty and he was suffering from cardiac problems while the second person was on dialysis.

Meanwhile, two more army personnel, aged 23 and 33, at an institutional quarantine in Yol, tested positive on Friday morning and were shifted to the military hospital Yol.
