Couple injured after car plunges into stream in Chamba district

A couple was seriously injured after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down 200-feet on a hill-side plunging into a stream near Madhuwad in Churah subdivision of Chamba district late on Friday.

The accident occurred around 9 pm when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road. Locals who heard the crash immediately informed the police and administration. The injured have been identified as Hem Raj and his wife Lalita Kumari, residents of Chilli village in Churah tehsil.

A rescue team led by SDM Churah, Tissa SHO Ashok Kumar, and Fire Officer Manoj Kumar reached the spot along with their teams. Despite the darkness and difficult terrain, the couple was rescued after a two-hour-long operation with help from local residents.

They were first taken to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College Medical College, Chamba, for treatment. In wake of the serious injuries suffered by Lalita Kumari, she has been referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government College, Tanda in Kangra. The police said a case has been registered into the incident and investigation were on to ascertain exact cause of the mishap.
