Court seeks status report on ADB fund for Shimla

SHIMLA:The High Court on Monday directed the Chief Secretary to file a status report regarding the projects carried out on the basis of funds received from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the beautification of Shimla.

The High Court on Monday directed the Chief Secretary to file a status report regarding  the projects carried out on the basis of funds received from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the beautification of Shimla.

  Passing this order, a Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma directed the Chief Secretary to file his personal affidavit, furnishing the details about the utilisation of funds sanctioned by the ADB within two weeks. The court passed this order on a PIL petition regarding the beautification of Shimla. 

On the previous date of hearing, the Director, Tourism, informed the court that for the development of Shimla, more than Rs 650 crore was sanctioned by the ADB. More than Rs 8 crore stood invested by the ADB for the preservation and restoration of the famous Town Hall building on Mall Road.  

In its order passed on December 13, 2017, the court had directed the Chief Secretary to file his personal affidavit with regard to proper use of the building after its restoration.
