Creation of fire lines, controlled burning on 450 hectares planned to save Himachal forests during summer
The Forest Department has chalked out a multi-pronged action plan to save green wealth from fires that normally rage during summer. As per the department’s schedule, the forest fire season starts around April 15 and ends on July 15 or with the onset of monsoon showers. A working plan has been devised to save forest wealth and combat fires during summer. The plan proposes the creation and maintenance of 74-km fire lines and controlled burning on around 450 hectares of forestland that is littered with dry vegetation and is vulnerable to fires.
