The Una-Hoshiarpur road via Bankhandi section of the National Highway No. 503-A will remain closed during the day for heavy traffic from July 8 to 23 in view of the proposed road strengthening work on the stretch in Punjab,
The Union Government had announced the hgiway from Amritsar to Adampur, Hoshiarpur, Una, Pirnigaha, Mandli, Lathiani and Bhota a few years ago. The work on the part of the road in Himachal Pradesh had been completed up to Mandli. The work on the roads tretch in Punjab is underway.
Una SDM Nidhi Patel said light vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, passenger cars, jeeps and pickup vehicles and three-wheelers, would be allowed while heavy vehicles would be prohibited from 7 am to 7 pm. She added that heavy vehicles could, however, ply from 7 pm to 7 am.
As regards alternative arrangements, Patel said heavy traffic moving from Una to Hoshiarpur would be diverted from Ispur to Gagret-Hoshiarpur while heavy traffic moving from Hoshiarpur to Una would be diverted to Gagret from the nBajwara Batta market point.
The SDM said that the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by her today. DSP, Hoshiarpur, Varinder Khosa, Deputy Manager of Indian National Highways Shantanu Upadhyay and site engineer Mukul Bansal, besides Secretary of the Road Traffic Authority Hoshiarpur Sukhwinder Kumar and HRTC Una Traffic Manager Darshan Singh attended the meeting.
