Born and brought up in a small hill station of Dalhousie, artist Priya Monga has always taken keen interest in the beauty of Himachal and its rich culture. This fondness for nature is what prompted her to put the beauty of the state on canvas.

Despite having a degree in law, she has completely submerged herself in the world of brush and colours. Her parents dreamt of making her a doctor due to which she studied medical subjects till class XII, but she could not distance herself from the beautiful world of art, said Priya.

She mostly paints realistic art. Her paintings mostly depict Himachali culture and the scenic beauty of the state.

“Looking at the present scenario, I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work under RM Singh of Punjab, a renowned artist, who guided me about the minute details of art,” Priya said.

The artworks of Priya were exhibited in a painting exhibition, ‘master strokes’ at the Indian Habitat Centre in Delhi last year, which won her appreciation.

While the exhibition was attended by eminent artists from different states of the country, her paintings were the only ones that depicted the realistic art of Himachal Pradesh, through which many people came to know about the natural beauty of the state.

“So far, no woman has been appreciated and recognised in the field of art at the national and international level,” she lamented.

Priya plans to exhibit her work in Chamba, Dalhousie, Dharamsala, Manali and Shimla next year.

She said, “The best medium to attract people to the magnificence of Himachal is making paintings depicting the beauty of Himalayas. My future endeavours are to continue making paintings to make the world aware of the beauty of Himachal Pradesh.”
