All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson and Theog MLA Kuldeep Rathore on Wednesday termed the Delhi Police action against Himachal Sadan and Youth Congress leaders as an attempt to suppress dissenting voices and demanded stern action by the state government against the Delhi Police.
In a press statement issued here, Rathore said raiding the premises of Himachal Sadan in New Delhi without any warrant amounted to a clear violation of privacy. He added that knocking on doors and conducting searches at midnight was a serious matter, warranting legal action by the Himachal government.
Lashing out at the Centre, Rathore said, “The country is not the property of one political party. In a democracy, governments come and go, but it is the duty of the opposition to raise the voice of the people.”
He alleged that the Centre was trying to suppress the voices of the youth by making a “huge issue” out of the Youth Congress’ shirtless protest during the recently held AI Summit in New Delhi. Rathore said on February 20, Youth Congress workers had peacefully protested against the proposed US-India trade deal and its adverse impact on farmers and the youth.
He claimed that there was widespread anger among the youth due to what he termed anti-people policies of the Central government, coupled with unemployment and lack of job opportunities.
