Demand to exempt HP varsity boarders from entry fee to Porter Hills

After boarders of Himachal Pradesh University opposed the decision to impose entry fees on Porter Hills located near the university, the university authorities have urged the Department of Forests to exempt students as well as boarders of the university from the entry fees.

Recently, Chief Warden, HP University, Prof Roshan Lal Zinta, recently held a meeting with the officials of the Forest Department and requested them to consider exempting entry fees to

Porter Hills for the university students.

He said the site is being used by the university and boarders since the inception of the university in the 1970s, therefore, there is no need to charge entry fees from the students as well as the boarders.

The Chief Warden also said the employees of the Forest Department commute through the road that passes through the boys and girls hostels.

“The university has always cooperated with the Forest Department like a good neighbour. But the Forest Department has imposed Rs 20 entry fees that is violating the rights of the students who had been using this area for morning walk, sports, yoga and meditation. Therefore, keeping this in mind, the Forest Department should provide free entry to the students and in return, we will assure to maintain peace and cleanliness in the area,” said the Chief Warden.
