Mandi, January 10

The residents of Mandi town are demanding to reduce sewerage charges on water bill, which was quite high at present. Presently the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department is charging 50 percent extra directly on actual water will.

Residents said that to charge 50 percent extra of actual water bill from consumers for sewerage facility is not fair and government should make some amendment in it.

Roop Upadhyay a local resident of town said that past few years the IPH authority is charging 50 percent amount extra of actual water bill, which is quite high. The state government should reduce it with immediate effect and fix some amount for sewerage bill depending on domestic and commercial use.

The people of town also raised the issue with Municipal Council Authority to take up the matter with state government.

Suman Thakur, President of Municipal Council Mandi said that “we have raised this issue with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur during his visit here in Mandi and it is a matter of entire state.”

IPH Minister Mahender Singh Thakur said the state government was mulling stopping 10 per cent hike in water bill every year and decision will be taken accordingly.
