Demands not met, SMC teachers threaten to protest from Feb 21
The School Management Committee (SMC) teachers are demanding regularisation of their services from the state government before February 21. They threatened to go on a strike and protest outside the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat if the demand was not met.
While addressing a press conference, Suniel Sharma, president, SMC Teachers’ Association said despite multiple assurances, the state government was yet to take any action regarding the demand, which was a huge injustice to them.
“In a Cabinet meeting held last year, the state government had given its nod to regularise and recruit SMC teachers through limited direct recruitment on contract basis. However, one year has passed and nothing has been done by the government,” said Sharma.
“What’s disappointing is that we have met Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Education Minister Rohit Thakur. Discussions regarding our demands were held but no action has been taken in that direction so far, due to which we have decided to launch a mass movement against the government,” he said.
“We will boycott classes after February 21 if our demands are not fulfilled, for which only the state government will be responsible” he added.
“We will fight for our rights and launch a movement against the government. We will not stop until our demand is fulfilled,” he added.
