Mandi, July 21

The Forest Department has started a cleanliness drive around Bijli Mahadev Temple. The action comes after a report highlighting the littered route to the shrine was published in these columns.

The route leading to the temple through dense forests was dotted by polybags, disposable plates and glasses. At a few places, wooden dustbins were in a bad shape.

Divisional Forest Officer, Kullu, Neeraj Chadha said: “Today, we started the campaign in the area and collected 80 bags of disposable plates and glasses. The garbage has been sent to the Pirdi plant for disposal.”

“The department has also placed new dustbins on the way to the temple. The cooperation of the people is a must to keep the area clean,” he added.

Bijli Mahadev is one of the sacred temples in Kullu district. It is located at an altitude of about 2,460 m in Kharahal. Every year, a large number of devotees visit the place.
